George Martin, Beatles Producer, Has Died
|
Martin, often called "the Fifth Beatle," gave the Beatles their first recording contract and produced virtually all of their music (aside from the work Phil Spector did on Let It Be). He was born in London in 1926, and after leaving the Navy in 1947, he studied piano and oboe. In the 1950s, he recorded jazz, lounge, and comedy records for Parlophone, where he eventually became head of A&R. He was a prolific producer beyond his work with the Beatles, winning several Grammy Awards over the years. He was knighted in 1996.
R.I.P.

Well said Stomper. George was very influential on modern culture more than most who get mentioned on this site. I know MikeHammer was lucky enough to meet him and others so don't disrespect that. Gank should just shut up or move on. Peace and love everyone !!

Gank If you dont like a thread I respectfully suggest you dont read it. Let the rest of us show the respect we feel for a man who changed the worlds soundscape by the unique contribution he made with his organized anarchy in the recording studio.

Then take it onto a Beatles forum since you have the unique insight. Don't impose your very singularly-justified grief onto all the users of this site, who do so because of an entirely unrelated connection.

Gank ... Met him on numerous occasions - happy to photos and signed stuff. The most gentle of gentlemen you could ever meet but also very funny. God bless George and thanks for those memories including Air Studios visits.

Ha! All you cunts moaning at me whilst crying over the death of a man you never knew.
Pathetic.
Perhaps you're huge fans of The Beatles. Or perhaps it's because I think they're hugely overrated.

So often after someone dies you hear tributes saying what a good bloke they were. I can honestly say that I met George a number of times and he was all the things people say - a real gent, a truly amazing talented guy but simply a really well spoken nice bloke.
RIP Sir George and thanks for all the great recordings and condolences to Judy and Giles.
PS. For those who mention Neil Aspinal as a possible 'Fifth Beatle' it woudl true to say his claim would be second only to George as he was there throughout their career (and before .. at school with Paul and George H) and looked after Apple until his death about 8 years ago. Interestingly he fathered a child with Mona Best (Roag) who went on to work with his half brother Pete.

Re Zico: It was probably Tommy Moore. One day he didn't turn up for a gig. The Beatles went to his house and Moore's girlfriend leaned out of the window and told them to "piss off"... He bitterly regretted it after they became succesful and never got over it...

He was such a nice bloke. Took me and a pal on a tour of Air Lyndhurst studios a few years ago even though we were more or less roadies with an interest in recording. He even made us a cup of tea.
Rest in peace George.

No this was going well back to when they were at school or something. The very first, unless my old dear has got it totally wrong and it was just a guy who drove a Beatle!!
